Dean Nelson to Return to Scotland After 11 Years at the Club

Current Head Professional Daniel O’Neill appointed Dean’s successor from December

Dear Fellow Members,

After 11 wonderful years of service at the Club, our Director of Golf Dean Nelson will be leaving Hong Kong in early December to relocate permanently to be with his family in Scotland, where his children have recently enrolled at secondary school.

I am extremely confident that I speak on behalf of all members in saying that Dean has done an excellent job throughout his tenure, elevating the standards of instruction and service in our Golf Operations department, whilst at the same time becoming a good friend to many of us.

Dean’s accomplishments are many. He has been responsible for overseeing our superbly run Club tournaments, our many Interport matches both at home and away, played an instrumental role in the foundation and running of the Hong Kong Ladies Open, helped greatly in initiating many of our community engagement efforts and has led his team with great effect.

There is no question that our standing on the Platinum Clubs of the World ranking since 2015, which has seen us rise from an initial position of 71st to 56th today, can be attributed in no small part to his efforts.

Dean leaves us with many happy memories, a heavy heart and on excellent terms. I know that members and his colleagues alike will be very sad to see him go. I want to thank him for his service and to wish him, his wife Karolina, and children Louisa and Zach every success and happiness in the years ahead.

We are also extremely happy to announce that Daniel O’Neill has been appointed Director of Golf, effective December. In Daniel, our Head Professional for the last 12 years, we are very fortunate to have an exceedingly capable replacement for Dean already in place.

Daniel is widely respected for his professionalism, integrity and leadership skills, and I am convinced that he will make a first-rate Director of Golf to follow in Dean’s footsteps. Through his loyalty and hard work over the years, Daniel has certainly earned the opportunity to take on the role and I’m pleased to say that he is very excited about the future.

The Club has a few months to manage the transition and handover of responsibilities of the Director of Golf role and I am sure that this will be a seamless and positive experience for all concerned. Please join me in congratulating Daniel on his promotion and wishing him all the very best.

Thank you.
