The Club’s Junior Development Programme (JDP) runs from September to June, totaling 27 classes split across three terms. Throughout the programme the juniors will not only cover all of the key fundamentals of golf skills; putting, short game and long game, but also rules, etiquette, sportsmanship and other key life skills.
These classes are run from Monday to Sunday at DWB and on the weekend at Fanling. With sign up numbers increasing every year, 2017/18 has seen over 100 juniors joining the programme for the first time. An Elite Class is run on Saturdays catering to all ages of Blue Tag holding juniors as well as a 2.5 hour class on Sunday afternoons to allow golf course time for our advanced juniors to get more golf course time and work towards a blue tag.
Throughout the winter the Club runs Junior Stableford competitions at DWB for all juniors aged 6-16 years old over either 4, 7 or 9 holes depending on ability level. Points are awarded based on the juniors’ finishing position for an Order of Merit table run over the six events with the best five scores counting.
In June we then host an End of Year Awards Ceremony for all of the juniors on the JDP to receive their Certificates of Achievement, our DWB Stableford Order of Merit winners to receive their trophies and for parents to see a video of the highlights of the year for the JDP and their children.
The addition of the Multi-Purpose Sports Court has allowed the running of Half-Day Golf Camps at Fanling throughout the winter on weekends, where juniors play a mixture of striking sports (tennis, hockey and baseball) to complement their motor skill development along with short, long game practice and golf course time to put their skills in to practice.
With the increased popularity of the Golf Camps that are run, more and more camps are added each year. We now run camps over CNY, Easter, Summer and Christmas. 2017 sees a total of nine overnight golf camps being run alongside nine one day golf camps and over 200 juniors in attendance.
